Welcome to my blog! This week I’m talking about media coverage, money and a very important award ceremony.
It was fantastic to see that the interview I gave to a journalist from the Times resulted in a full page article about Unforgettable and our new Lasting Power of Attorney service in the paper’s Money section. I was really delighted to see our story achieve such a prominent place in such a prestigious newspaper, both in print and online. I was even more delighted that it led to a very significant increase in traffic to our site, and to more people finding out about the work we’re doing.
Dashed back to London after a weekend in Devon and made it to the Hilton Hotel for 12noon where judging was taking place for the National Dementia Care Awards 2016. Unforgettable is through to the final round of these important awards and it was now down to me to convince the judges that we should win the Outstanding Dementia Care Innovation category. I did my best to persuade them, but apparently it’s one of the most difficult categories to win. The gala dinner, where all the winners are announced, takes place on 3 November so fingers crossed.
I spent quite a bit of time this morning working on our office move, which is happening at the end of the week, and preparing a speech for an important event tomorrow.
After lunch, we had our final investment committee meeting with Bridges Ventures during which we were given the go-ahead for further funding. We’ll be meeting again in January to report on our progress.
I started the day by giving a speech at Reclaim Fund Limited, an organisation which makes it possible for money in dormant bank and building society accounts to be used to help good causes. Reclaim Fund Ltd distributes the money to various other organisations, one of which is Big Society Capital, which in turn distributes money to Unforgettable’s investors. The aim of my presentation was to show what happens to the money we receive. Presenting alongside me were two charities which have also benefited from the fund, including the particularly interesting Heart and Sound, a music and media charity for young people in Scotland.
I had a good meeting with Tom Wilson from Moneywise who wants to write about our new Lasting Power of Attorney service. I then spent the rest of the day working on big orders and key relationships with potential partners such as Lilly UK and major hospitals and care homes.
It’s been really encouraging to see so much media interest in our new Lasting Power of Attorney service and it’s easy to see why so many people are talking about it. Not only is it free, it’s also highly innovative and makes complete sense to anyone who understands the challenges of the dementia journey. Thanks to everyone who made it happen.
